Hook and loop sanding discs

The discs seem to be flying all over the shop now. Is there anyway to re-new the part on the sander or do I just go to the store and buy a new pad to put on?

There really is no way to renew the pad. Did you take a vacuum to the pad? Sometimes that will help if there is a build up dust on the pad. Usually though when the paper won't stay on the pad it's a sign that the hooks have melted away and there is nothing for the paper to grab onto.

It is a Ryobi ros. I think its like sweensdv says, its just worn out. just a cheap fix but it is hard to go to the Bork and get just one item. I'm going to try scrubbing it with saopy water and see if that gets me thru this project.

ryobi has a couple different models. some have the hook and loop pad as semi-permanent, while on others its a stick on disc in and of itself.

So you can see that replacing it depends on which you have.

Yep, this is the stick on disc, I put it on myself. I know they have the replacements on the wall at Home depot, I just wanted to know if it could be revitalized.

I bought a roll of the hook and loop stuff a few years back and hide glue/sanding disc glue by franklin and I sand the old one on a sanding belt. Yes sand off the beat hooks and glue on a new piece. Works for a few years. I think I got it from Klingspor a bit ago...

I have a DeWalt ROS in which the pad just began to crumble. I took it off and used acetone to get the old glue off.

Here in Japan, most home centers have foam rubber pads of different densities and thicknesses, AND with one side with adhesive. I bought a piece about 3/8 in thick and 8x12 inches and cut a piece for the DW. I then attached the older H&L pad with some 3M type of spray glue.

It works great now, just like new.

IF you need the foam rubber part, email me. If you only need the H&L part, you might be able to get that at a hardware store or even a fabric shop. Take a disk with you to make sure it hooks OK.
