    Craftsman Radial Arm Saw

    Hi

Does this Radial Arm Saw at $150 strike folks as a bargain?

    http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/n...337904642.html

If I decided on a RAS purchase, what should I look for or be aware of?

    Thanks.

I have the open based version of that saw. The saw itself isn't anything to write home about, I personally think the digital readout is pretty nifty altho' a little hoakey.

HOWEVER, I would scarf that unit up QUICK just for that base. I've actually been looking for that model and they are not easy to find. The table is a lot more substantial, it's mobile, and the storage capability would just be AWESOME.
If it ain't broke.. don't fix it!!!... but you can always 'hop it up'

forgot to add .... looking at the blade guard, it should also be eligible for the recall @ www.radialarmsawrecall.com

The kit should come with a new guard as well as an entire new table top

I would have to agree with Thom. Today I paid $100 for one, great shape but not electronic. I shyed away from them as I wasn't sure if the electronics went south whether the saw would still function and then the cost of repairing the electronics. That said, if everything is tight, no blade wobble, spins freely, not noisy and saws glides nicely on the arm then its probably OK. Make sure it all works and that base is really nice. The one I bought did not have any base at all.

There was a standard craftsman RAS on craigslist last week for $50. Looked liked it was in decent shape. I guess it all really depends on how badly you need or want one. Since I don't have the room in the shop and I'm perfectly happy with my 10" slider $50 is still marginal in terms of being a "bargain".

I's say that was a pretty good deal considering all the extras
