    Dovetail Jigs

Just got thru reading the laterst copy of a woodworking mag. and found an ad for a "table-mounted" jig that you move by hand, to make all kinds of dovetail patterns, Its called "Route-R-Joint", usually sells for $190+- amd on sale now for $159. Has anyone out in sawdust land used one of these; or can tell me if its a good buy? The idea sounds good and I have seen it being used somewhere on TV if my memory is correct. Anyway, am looking for feed-back on this from the MOST informed bunch of people on planet earth!

I saw that in American Woodworker. It's similar to the one by Oak Park that the guys on Router Workshop use, but better in that there's no risk of tipping with the Woodline one. And, it's guaranteed even if the user chews the template up.
I mulled this for days, I would like to do the hearts and other additional templates, but I have an Incra and just can't do the $160 for just the hearts. If I didn't have an Incra, I'd go for the Woodline. I've bought from them and the service is great, a family company. Call and they will email the catalog page for it and show the additional templates available.

      DT Jig

I vote for the Stots Jig as the most DT jig bang for the buck. This is truly an ingenious tool.

The Woodline kit really intrigues me. I have one of the low-end Incra positioners that I haven't really done anything with yet except setup. But the Woodline kit really looks like it would be easy to use. Seems similar to riding a bike to me (do it once and never forget how).

The only downside as I see it is it seems to indicate that through dovetails are limited to stock approx. 3/8" thick. I don't have if the Incra has the same limitation or not. Not sure if that is a limitation on all dovetail jigs. Kinda new to dovetails.

          Morning All...

If anyone is interested in a simple jig that will cut only through DT's in 3/4" stock... PM me. I purchased a Kellerman 1500 Journeyman to do a run of Hope Chests for a local high-end antique and accessory shop on consignment as I thought it would speed the job. And it did... but I don't personally care for the look of uniform machine cut DT's and after one chest, laid it to rest.

For description.. go to www.highlandwoodworking.com where it currently sells for $159. I will take $40 for it plus USPS Priority shipping.. or if the wind is blowing right and I see the need from someone that really can't afford $40 due to family responsibilities taking priority, I might just do it for the shipping.

Funny about jigs.. they work great but I just prefer to do them with a Lie-Neilsen DT saw or I have done them with a $4.95 Buck Bros. back-saw for that matter. Slower.. but they just have that look you aren't going to get with a jig.

          Regards...

All I see about the 3/8 limitation for thickness on thru DT's is the reference to the bit height. I 'think' a long DT bit like used with the Incra system would correct that. Woodline's tech support is very helpful, give them a call and ask, to be sure.

I have the Woodline Dovetail system for sale

While I have put the system together I have never used it. Considering I have an Akeda jig, I'm not sure why I bought it except they made it look very easy at the show. The set I have includes not just the basic set but all of the additional templates as well.
