    Craftsman 22114 Mod Advice

I have been toying with the idea of modifying (replacing) the big red door plastic door on the right side of the saw. Two things would be accomplished. 1. Opens space under the right side of the table (more room to mount a router on an auxillary table) and 2. By replacing the present door with a flat panel door I believe it would improve dust collection as it would close that large hole on the top of the current door.

Question is: Is that large hole at the top of the current door necessary for cooling air to the motor? A flat panel door would be only a couple of inches from the end of the motor. I would think not as with the DC running, sucking air through the other openings in the saw there should be adequate air to keep the motor cool. That said, I am still curious what others may think about this modification and any negatives that may arise from doing this. As always, thanks for input.

I'm guessing that the opening you mentioned is more for replacement air from DC than for cooling of the motor....try covering it as an experiment before replacing the whole door.

If you replace the door with a flat panel, I think your motor will hit the panel when beveled.
Happiness is sort of like wetting your pants....everyone can see it, but only you can feel the warmth.

The red door is there to give the motor room when you angle the blade for a bevel cut.
