    Craftsman 21237 SCMS

I've been looking at the Craftsman 21237 10" SCMS and see that it is on sale again for $199 through the 19th.

There was a thread about this saw back in November, but I was wondering if anybody had any more info. I don't think the Lowe's version is available anymore.

Looks like a pretty good deal, and in the store the slider doesn't seem to have any more flex than the expensive saws. Only question I really have would be durability. I'm not planning on using it extensively, but I don't want to buy junk either.

Any info or advice would be appreciated,

    Thanks,

    Phil

    Tradesman @ Lowes

This Craftsman appears to be the same as the Tradesman Saw at Lowes. Price was $179 today. I have not looked at the Craftsman but the Tradesman already had a broken handle (carrying handle).

That brand at Lowes is the lowest end that they carry. That in itself would make me think twice about this particular saw. I too wish I could find a decient SCMS for around $200 but not sure that animal exists.

I have the Craftsman. Only used on a couple of projects so far, but I'm happy with the purchase. It is my first MS, sliding or fixed, FWIW. I haven't needed the slider function yet.

        All,

I also went around about how much to spend on a SCMS. I ended up with a Bosch 3915 (10" SCMS) for less than $300 shipped from Amazon (a couple years ago). It is a beast and will take anything I throw at it. My point is that even though this is around $100 more than the low-end SCMS', it is in my opinion more than twice the tool. Keep your eye out on Bargain Alerts. As I recall, Amazon had a special a few days ago for a Makita 10" SCMS for under $300 shipped. Very few people are dissapointed with this saw. My opinion on something like a SCMS that I use so much is "buy once, cry once". I have too often in the past settled for a low end tool, only to regret it later and upgraded. In retrospect, I should have done that in the beginning and saved myself the frustration and disappointment.

If I were in your shoes, I would keep an eye on Bargain Alerts and pull the trigger when a sweet deal on one of the higher-end models comes out. You may regret it later, but I have not heard many say that when upgrading to a higher end saw.

        Regards,

        Pete

          All,

Here is the link for the Makita 10" SCMS:

          http://www.bt3central.com/showthread.php?t=30064

$289 + $5 shipping. Awesome, awesome deal. Deal is dead (for now), but Amazon has a reputation of throwing these deals out for a limited time. Keep your eyes open and it (or something similar) may roll around again.

          Good Luck !

          Pete

            Ditto everything that Pete said.

I got the C10FSH for $262. but lately they have been selling for just under $300 when the price is lowered...
