    Delta 37-190 6" Jointer

I may have an opportunity to purchase this jointer. It's been advertised locally for $245, having been used only 4-5 times. It is missing the dust collector connection but comes with manuals and mobile base. My questions are: is this jointer any good? And if so, is it worth $245 or should I consider offering less?

I'm not familiar with the 37-190 but I've owned a 37-195 for about 4 years. It's been a great little jointer so far. You WILL have to figure out a dust collector port unless you're using it outside.

The 195 is a little larger in motor and fence size. That said I have the 190. $245 is a good price. Especially with the mobile base. The dust collection port has 2 pieces. One is the chute from the cutter head to the stand. The other is the cover for the end of the chute and hooks to the DC hose. If the chute is missing the you will have to sweep the floor after use. If the cover is missing the you can get a universal replacement to fit with some small mods. The are around $6.

The 37-190 is essentially what is now labeled the JT360. Lowes has it new for ~ $359. The fence support mechanism on this machine is very similar to fence support on the Sears machine, and isn't quite as robust as that on the 37-195 (now called the 37-275X), Yorkcraft, Ridgid, Grizzly, Jet, Bridgewood, GI, PM, or Sunhill. It also has an open stand which isn't quite as condusive to DC, and it has a smaller motor than the others. That said, when set up correctly it's still perfectly capable of performing well, but I don't know if I'd offer $245 for it. Sears puts their machine on sale for ~ $300 frequently....it has a closed base and 1hp motor. The Ridgid is often $349. Lowes appears to be parting ways with Delta, which means you may find a new JT360 for the price of a used one. Just some food for thought to confuse the heck out of you...[:I]
