Bosch introducing 4100 table saw

Bosch is upgrading the 4000 table saw to the 4100. They are upgrading the miter slots to t-slots. They have a rethought riving knife/blade guard. It will be available with a digital fence as an option. And finally, they say they improved the dust collection.

I'm pretty happy w/ my Ryobi BT3K. But I know it won't last forever. Kinda thinking of taking the plunge on one of these new Bosch 4100's. The table is only 21.5" deep (instead of 22.25" on the BT3K). But I constantly remind myself that Krenov works on a table saw that is about 20.5" deep.

I could care less about the digital fence, but I like the adjustable riving knife.

That is sorta a concern (cost). The current 4000 line runs around $475 w/ the gravity rise table. I don't really need the gravity-rise table, but w/ the new model, if you want the digital fence, you need to take the gravity rise table/stand.

Why do I want the digital fence? Because when I install a router table as an extension (which I need to do because of limited space), I can use the digital scale on the fence for my router by zeroing it for the bit I'm using. I think that would be pretty handy. It would read negative values, but I think I can handle that.

So I don't know if they are going to try to jack up the price for the new features. I'm sure they will. But how much higher can they go? They are already about the same as some higher-end contractors saws and hybrids.

That split guard is kinda cool. But as long as the BT3100 keeps cutting, I'll keep using it.

I think the Bosch is overpriced as it is. Add more raise the price. Take youself out of the market.

I agree that they are at the absolute maximum they can charge for a portable saw. Even with the additional features.

I'm hoping there is no significant increase in price. I kinda want one.

I have one for the Bosch 4000 already. No way you can hook dust collection into that one. Looks like I might be getting another new model.
The guy said that there has never been a three piece modular system before. Maybe not by a major maker but the concept seems all too familiar to me for some reason.
I'll have to see the mechanism up close, but the clips that hold the things on the knife seem a little flaky to me. I am sure it's been through testing. I'll have to make a mental note to check that out.

The guard system is pretty much exactly like my PM2000's. Only difference is that he riving knife slides down into the saw housing, on my saw, it's quick release removable.

More table saws need riving knives!
