    Resaw bandsaw project Makita 16"

Well after much eBaying and missing many deals there and on local auctions, I finally got my band saw I wanted for resawing. I have a Delta 16” 3 wheeler. It’s got lots of room but it tops out at 3/8” thin stock blades because of the smaller wheels. It has 8” resaw gap more or less but I know the motor would simply not do it. I just got a set of the urethane tires I’m hoping it will help..

BTW the pictures show someone elses saw the pretty one on top and my saw is the rusty one below

for more pics of what it looks like fixed up see

    http://www.oxide.org/bandsaw/

It took be a sec when I found that site to understand that what i took to be the blade guard was the blade itsself its
2 3/8" wide ! Its got a rack and pinion guard and solid block guides to support the massive blade. This saw seems to be a earlier cousin to the Hitachi CB75F.

I've got some long 1/4 sawn oak 10"-16" I've been waiting to rewas I will post some pics once I get the beast fired up.

I think history would have been very much different if Leonardi DiVinci had a belt sander.

Wow! I'll bet it cleans-up real nice. And you probably won't have to worry much about blade drift with a blade that substantial!

          WOW!

I don't think I'd want to coil one of those blades for storage.

          Regards,
          Tom

Great saw. And a good job getting it ready to go.

On one of the few hits on Google that mention this saw the owner said that coiling was just too formidable a task so he says to allow wall space to hang the blade. From what I gather this saw only really has the one big blade 2” or 2 3/8" but I did read of someone with a 3" blade, (maybe that’s in "AOL inches") I plan to buy 4 blades before the supply dries up. This really is an indulgence but it gives me the idea of getting some usable wood from my trees, like 1/4 sawn sycamore and use the waste for the fireplace am trying to figure out a log feeder arrangement that two people could manage. Once I get it up and running (this summer) I would welcome anyone within a decent drive to Nashville to come and resaw their wood. If anyone out there has a the big hitachi resaw I’d be curious to see if the guts are the same. Since this is my first real rehab tool project I think I am going to pick a non-gray color to paint it and latter my other tools. Maybe Oliver Blue-purple.

What did you end up paying for the saw?

...mikel I lust for a resaw.
