HF 9" Vise

I finished attaching the vise to my workbench. I have one problem though - the jaws line up nice w/o load but if you crank it down there is a big gap at the top.

My twin screw vise avoids this by having the lead screws in the center of the jaws and I have a plate under the bench top to limit the deflection of the lead screws.

Anyone have a solution for the HF vise?

Assuming this is a WW vice which is designed to mount wood faces into, why not bevel the wood faces inward, so they are thicker at the top than the bottom. Most WW vices have the iron jaws beveled inward so they hit at the top before the bottom. If yours doesn't do that, I'm pretty sure you'd get the same result by bevelling the wood. Come to think of it, you could always shim some MDF stock with tape to get the desired result.
