    central machinery table saw

    I found another table saw on a local craigslist. This is a 2 HP Central Machinery saw (HF). Asking price is 125.00. Do you think it is worth that and do you think it would be a step up from the BT? I like the idea of a cast iron saw, but don't want to buy something I will regret later. thanks!

      You need to take a REALLY flat beam with you and SEE if it is true flat or not
      Cast is NOT that big of a deal
      I converted my BT 30 a saw that is 7' wide and 5' deep and it outperforms most "cabinet saws" I have used
      Just because this one weighs 800 pounds and is made of "cast iron" doesnt' mean it was "precision ground" to flat. If not you can add another $300 to get it flat

          Hard to say. The saw in the photo was never very popular but for $125, you are not taking much of a chance.

              Don't know, the saw may be fine but that fence is junk. Its an old style uni/rockwell type. you'll need to get or make a bies style fence for it. Easily most of the problems with older cheaper saws is the crappy fence.

              I have an old cheap contractors saw and built a bies clone and gave it a good tune up. It saws as repeatably and as square as any other saw around. Only a horse and a half but .....

                  If the saw runs well, and will clean up to decent condition may be worth
                  $125.00. If it checks out ok...and you decide to buy it...I would think
                  about a Biese clone fence like the Delta T-2 about $150.00 at Lowe's.
                  Pick up an Incra V-27 miter gauge for $59.00 at Woodcraft or Klingspor,
                  a good miter gauge, fence and blade make the saw in my opinion.
