    HF Paint Gun(s)

Which Harbor Freight HVLP Paint guns are the good ones? I see so many different models ranging from $14-70, and they all appear pretty much the same. Which ones do people like.. and why?

I'm sure that forum members with more experience than I will give better info, but here is my experience:

This is similar to my reply to Ken re: his compressor question ...

I have used my HF 90977 HVLP gun only one time -- to spray some Adirondack chairs w/oil based paint. It was my first attempt at any spray gun. Pretty simple to use. Good coverage. No runs.

I believe that this gun is available only by mail order / on-line. I chose it because the specs state that it needs only 5.91CMF @ 29PSI, vs 9.5 - 14.8CMF for HF HVLP Gun #43430 that is in the retail stores. Even so, my 21gal HF compressor struggled to keep up.

Here are the specs on #90977 ...

And here is the #43430 ...

Well the one I have is a self-contained HVLP. I don't have a honk'n compressor so I went went with the all-in-1-er. It's was $70 or so on sale, was grey, and looked just like the Rockler one. http://www.rockler.com/product.cfm?O...Select=Details

...but I don't see it at http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=91772 any more, just that one. Maybe it's replaced by the blue $50 unit.

I've done lots of water based poly and it's been great for that. I can lug the unit into the back yard spray booth I have (a bar stool) without having to worry about the compressor or long hose/etc.

It's an idiot proof setup, tested by yours truly..

I looked around my local HF and never saw anyhing that resembles either of those. Looks like they don't stock that item here...

I've got the 43430 from HF and it has worked well for maybe 3 years now. The internal 2.2mm parts, nozzle and needle, from the PC PSH-1 fit it. perfectly. Someone on woodnet hooked up a air flow meter to one and it only ran about 5 SCFM or so.

The 90977 Lonnie mentioned is also a very good gun.

Both of these guns have a smaller touchup version available.
