    HF Mortiser

I had a HF Mortiser surprise but unlike eddy merckx in http://www.bt3central.com/showthread...light=mortiser it wasn't so pleasant.

I went 'over the river' last Friday afternoon armed with my 15% coupon and $85. Came home the new black model with the additional chuck, extention etc. I chucked the 1/2 chisel after assembly and it wouldn't bite more than a 1/4" out of a piece of pine. I thought it must be the 'cheap' chisel, but that worked nicely in a friend's Delta through oak. His chiesl in the HF responded the same as mine had. Finally, I took a look inside and discovered about 3 teeth from the sproket had sheared and where laying in the bottom of the housing. Has anyone else had/heard of this? Is this a known issue with this machine or am I 'just lucky'?

I've heard it said, "you get what you pay for".

Quality control is not a igh priority with HF. Fortunately their return policy is great. Take it back and check out the replacement before leaving the store.
