Anyone know anything about this version. It seems to be quite older than the current one. I assume it even pre-dates the 2424? Is $180 a good price for it?

Ridgid 2412...
I personally don't have this saw, but a friend of mine and fellow woodworker
has one in his shop, had it for several years and likes it. He says it is one of the better saws out there.
From a personal observation....it is a good cast iron contractor saw, solid construction and well built. Dust collection...nonexistant, saw is open all the
way from the trunnion to the floor, nothing to catch dust or help get rid of it.
If you can get it for $180.00 and it is in good shape...it should be worth that
price anywhere. If you decide to buy it...check it out thorougly, check alignment of blade to miter slots, elevation & tilt crank handles and motor
for excessive noise( bearing wear,etc.). I would not worry too much about
rip fence and miter gauge for now...these things are easily replaced with
good upgrade units that are probably better than the stock items anyway.
If you can...remove belt from saw and rotate the trunnion by hand to check
for roughness in bearings and excessive play in shaft, that is an important
item to think about. Most of the better saws have a table at least 27" deep
(front to back) so, any of the good fences like Biese. or it's clones, or
Unifence or these types will bolt right up to it with little or no modifications
to the saw or fence. Just my .02 worth...hope this helps...eezlock -
I doubt very much if they'll let you register that saw into the Limited Lifetime Service Agreement Program. When that program first started, Ridgid did allow owners of older product to register their tools into the program. There was a deadline to do that however and that date has long since past. As I recall, the 2412 was the first contractor style saw that Ridgid/Emerson introduced after they and Sears parted company, sometime around 1998 or 1999._________________________

AFAIK, all of the Ridgid saws prior to the 3650 were made in the states by Emerson, and all have a great deal in common with each other. It's the bolt-ons that change the most, like the fence, wings, Herculift, etc.....the basic guts are the same or similar AFAIK, and are very similar to the Emerson made Craftsman's before that. Things like wings, fences, miter gauge, motors should all be easily upgradeable if desired or needed, and in many cases, interchangeable.
$180 for a saw of this caliber that's NIB sounds like a great opportunity to me. I thought it was a fair price for a used one in good condition.Happiness is sort of like wetting your pants....everyone can see it, but only you can feel the warmth.

I decided to get it. I was upgrading from my Delta and was debating over the 2412 and a Jet JWTS-10JF (with router table). The guy with the jet was asking $400 (which I hoped to talk down to $300-$350). The big price difference made me lean towards the Ridgid but then I read a comparison (link) where the Jet beat out the Ridgid (which mainly came down to the Ridgid's motor not enclosed). BUT after reading your comments and some prodding from my wallet I went with the Ridgid. I'm going to wait till this weekend to put it together. Ironically, in the TS they compared a Delta model won out. Not the model I had though. So, thanks for the advice guys, I hope I made the right choice.-PaulComment
