I grew up with the RAS as the main saw in my Dad's shop. That old Craftsman RAS was used on every project. As I was starting to build my own shop, I really wanted a RAS, but just couldn't find a space for it. I ended up getting a 12" SCMS mounted on the Ridgid MSUV. The MSUV slides between a couple of benches to give me extended table surface for the SCMS. When I don't need the saw, the MSUV folds up and moves out of the way. That is something that I can't see happening with an RAS.

The downside of the 12" slider compared to a CMS is size and weight. The SCMS is big and too bulky to consider it portable -- until it's mounted on the MSUV. It works for everything I need.

I have thought about having a 10" CMS to sit on a shelf and then be taken easily in the trunk of a car, but I rarely need to travel with one.

Thanks for the replys. Enough of you mentioned the need for the slider on rare occasion that I am going to get a SCMS. In fact I am going to outfit my shop with the Bosch 4410l on an MSUV and a Freud ultimate cut off blade.

I am going to be helping/working on a $200,000 kitchen and bath remodel (not my own) with a ton of molding, including crown. I think the extra $$$ spend on the full featured saw is money well spent.
