I'm thinking it's about time I should get a jointer. I have a small (13x16) shop. I was thinking about either the Grizzley G0452 6" Jointer or the Rigid JP0610 6" Jointer. I like that the Grizzley has an enclosed base and a integrated mobile base(a must in my shop). I know the Rigid gets some good reviews, anybody know anything about the Grizzley? An info would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

Do a search of the tool talk forum and you will find TONS of discussion on 6" jointer reviews. Both you mention are fine choices, though you may want to think about a 8" in your can fit it in your shop. The extra 2" of width is cool, but the extra length really rocks.
Back to the ones you question, I would pick the Grizzly for the features you mention. Rigid does carry a life time warrenty, though Grizzly is known to make a great jointer and provide excellent service. I have Shop Fox W1741 (Shop Fox is the independent dealer line of Grizzly) which utililzes a similar mobile base system. If you are picking the Rigid over the Grizzly due to local pick up and delivery, then seek out a local Shop Fox dealer at www.shopfox.biz. I think you have to email them for stores as they don't have a dealer locator function. The upshot is that my W1741 8" jointer was $100 less than the identical Grizzly.

The Grizzly is a solid machine, and if it has features that appeal to you, grab it.

I am considering the Rikon 6" jointer. Anyone have any experience with it?

That is correct. Shop fox is sold through primarily through dealers. Grizzly is sold through mailorder or one of the Grizzly showrooms only.

Thats why some of the small things I have bought from Grizzly are labeled Shop Fox. Like their mobile bases.

And it is why dust collection fittings, ducts, etc from Grizzly are Woodstock International who markets the Shop Fox line.

If you want a 6" jointer then look at the yorkcraft one. Is $375 SHIPPED and made at the same place as the others.

I was thinking of that but I think I am going to get the 8" yorkcraft unless a local shopfox dealer can do better on the price.

i c, not to digress, but is one brand shop the superior model, while the other is their normail brand? fox is better than grizzly or vice versa?

I think a coat of paint and a better warranty is the main difference but Shop Fox is the one I would pick .
