    Cabinet Scraper Prep

I bought a set of Shop Fox cabinet scrapers at the woodworking show last fall and am just now getting around to using them. They're coated with a sticky substance that appears to be a yellowish rust preventive film.

Can I just use paint thinner or some similar petroleum product to clean off the gunk before I prepare the edge, or is there something else I should use. My main concern is avoiding the use of a product that would make it impossible to properly apply finishes.

You can use the same things you use to clean your cast iron. Kerosene works great if you have it.
