    Disk Sander Maintenance

I have a used Dayton stationary combination disk/belt sander. The 9" diameter disk is covered with splotches of backing paper and old adhesive that I'd like to clean up before I install a new abrasive disk. What's the best way to remove that stuff? Nail polish remover, acetone?

I think the disk is aluminum so I don't want to use a scraper on it.

I bought several different grits at HF but I'm not sure I want to be swapping paper all the time. Does anyone know where I might be able to get a few extra disks for this machine?

Acetone will definitely work, but I'd try Naptha, first -- you won't need to use so much because it doesn't evaporate so quickly.

Sorry, don't know about disks -- did you check Grainger, since I think they carry a lot of Dayton stuff?

    Regards,
    Tom

I have been extremely successful using a hair dryer and for severe build-up I have used a propane torch along with a putty knife with no damage to the disk.
