Ridgid OSS?

Does this sander ever go on sale? Been wanting an oss for a while and just saw the hf spindle sander on sale for $89.00. May be able to use a 20% off coupon making it ~$71. The hf is strictly spindle and I wonder if the belt option on the ridgid is worth the difference. Most post I've read about the Ridgid seem to be directed toward the spindle. How much use does the belt portion get? Looking forward to some input.

I have the belt on ~80% of the time or more, since the drive roller of the belt attachment can be used for curves. The tracking roller, which is smaller diameter than the drive roller, is not recommended for sanding, but guess what...

Don't know about frequency of sales -- my gut feel is not to hold your breath, though.

I bought my Ridgid EB4424 right at 2-1/2 years ago, and if it's ever been on sale since, I haven't noticed it (and I'm in HD often, and almost always stroll through the tool dept). There may have been some instances of percent-off sales that allowed folks to get one for less than the usual $199, but if this specific tool has ever been on sale, I missed it.

I use the belt portion a lot more than the spindle, although probably not the 80%+ that Tom mentions ... call it 60-40, maybe even 70-30. I do typically leave the belt mechanism in place, for what that's worth. I don't own any other kind of stationary sander, so the belt on the Ridgid is put to work on jobs on which others might use a benchtop disc or narrow-belt sander.

Appears the belt portion comes into play quiet a bit. Kinda figured that would be the case. Looks like the ridgid is the best answer so guess I'll save for a while. Maybe get lucky and see a sale.

I have been waiting for it to go on sale about 1 year now. Have not seen it on sale, at least not mentioned here or in an advertisement. I can't check the stores regularly since the closest one is 30+ miles away.

Have a feeling since it seems to be well liked by everyone. Has done well in reviews. They seem to be moving enough of them, just from the sounds of people here. They have to intention of putting it on sale.

If you get an HD credit card, they send you 10% off letters 3-4 times a year (and guess what, I pay my HD balance off 3-4 times a year!).

I've not seen it on sale, but I did buy it at the same time as the Ridgid belt sander (which included a free palm sander).

I think they thought I was nuts a the checkout counter.



Oh, I tend to use the belt sanding attachment more than the spindle, but I've only had it a few months. My current project seems to require the belt more than a spindle. But Ithink having both is a great feature.
