    stile and rail

    Does anyone know of a stile and rail set that is made for plywood panels? All my searches find standard sets for $75.00 (+-), then the plywood panel accessory set for $30.00(+-). It seems to me that somewhere there would be one set available for one price, but I haven't been able to find it. It's not that I'm cheap, (ok yes it is) I'm just not interested in buying things I don't need.

          I cant imagine making any parts ouf of plywood unless you are making flat panels in which case a rabbit bit would be the most you need if you wanted the panel thicker than the groove (just saw Norm do that)
          on my flat panels I make it the thickness of the groove. But stiles and rails or raised panels seem like they would be hard to paint even.

              There are several out there that might be a little less expensive than the ones that you found. Check with Holbren first as he is a great contributor to this forum and from time to time offers closeout out deals to this forum. You could also check woodline.com or mlcswoodworking.com. The one thing that I will note is that most of the plywood rail and stile bits are for use with 1/4" plywood inserts. Also, you need to watch the thickness of the groove being made for the ply insert. I think that the woodline plywood rail and stile groove is 5.5mm. Most 1/4" ply is 5.2mm that is found through the homecenters and most baltic birch is 6mm. I know that it is only .3mm difference, but it can leave a small gap once put together.
              It's all good till it's no good any more.

                  If you want a 1/4" plywood flat panel, no need for a special set or anything. Yes, there is a tiny gap. No big deal. I have done my entire kitchen with a regular rail and stile set (from Rockler before I knew about Holbren and MLCS) and it looks just fine.

                      The house branded sets are 1/4" tongue and the only ones I have at 7/32" are Whiteside and they are obviously more expensive.

                      In the future (next 4-6 months), I'm going to include a 7/32" tongue cutter with each R&S set or panel set. Seems like a nice feature to have.
