Router comparison

I know several of you have and are using the Hitachi M12V and the thoughts and reviews on it are great. I am wondering how the new Hitachi M12V2 compares to the older version?

I read in a review that it was positive changes on a classic. Can't put my finger on the review right now. Note it is on sale at Amazon right now for $160.99. I personally am going with the Triton 3.25 HP to replace the Bosch that is currently in there. The Hitachi would likely be my second choice.

Edit : Oh, ya this thing needs to be put under a router table. An enclosed router table. Man is that thing ugly.

Router Comparison

I have had one of the original MV12's for going on 10 years. Mounted in a "my own design" table. I love it, strong enough to do everything I've ever asked it to do. After about 7 years of steady use had to replace the electronic speed control as it started to not want to stay at one speed. Easy "do it yourself" repair. Based on this one's past preformance when it finally goes to "router heaven" I'll get the new MV12V2. I'd readily say its a good one! I also have two others; a PC and a (ugh ) Sears which I use as hand-held. Also built a router-rasier based on a plan in some (can't remember which one) wood mag. That also works great, and can't beat the cost; think I had about $15 in mics. hardware, the rest was scrap wood from around the shop.

March 2004 American Woodworker, perhaps? You wouldn't happen to have those plans, would you. Just curious about the design. If this is the one, I believe JimD built the same thing. (You lift the table lid type of design)?

The table I built was much earlier than 2004, sorry. Can't begin to remember where I saw the plans..but I've had this table for at least 7 or 8 years. Sorry can't be more help. As soon as my digital camera gets back from the repair shop I'll try and shoot some pics. of the table and the lift system.
