    Bandsaw blade length question

While I was using my bandsaw last night, it started to "Click, click, click" very loudly. I shut it off to see what was going on. The blade had a crack in it, almost all the way through. It's a Delta 10", and it calls for a 72 1/2" long blade. Locally, I can find 72 5/8" and 72 7/16" lengths. How much room, if any, can you vary from what is called for?

It depends on your bansaws adjustment range. How much can your upper wheel move to tension? I'm guessing that you have at least 3/4" to play with. Per Grizzly IIRC on my G0555 14" ultimate BS I have a range of >=1"

I had a Delta 10" which I ran a 72" blade on, no problem. There is quite a bit of adjustment available on that saw.

BS150LS ??? If so you should go down in length not up, as the 72.5 IMO is too big (when I tension it up I am almost hitting the top of the casing) I run a 72" and it fits just fine.

          blade length

That would depend on the tension adjustment as someone else pointed out.
The saw mfg. probably installed the longest one they had in stock at the time they built it,but as all mfg. processes go, they can and do vary according to the supplier who ships the blades to them. They may order
72 1/2" blades but they vary an inch or so either way by the time they get
there to be installed. Usually a quality control issue in most cases. Another
good reason for the adjustability feature on the saw.eezlock

Thanks for the replies. I figured the adjustment left room for play. Just didn't know if there was a good reason to stay with the recommended size.
