    doweling jig.

I need to pick one up for a future project. I know the Dowelmax is king but it is out of my league. What else is recomended?

I have a Beadloc dowel jig that I've used for single dowels before. It's relatively inexpensive and pretty easy to work with. You can't do an edge-to-face joint with it however. Also, you have to shim the rig if you want to center the dowel hole. The whole thing is held in place with a clamp--it doesn't clamp itself to the board.
