Anybody use these diamond honing blocks from Harbor Freight?

    ??

Not as fine grit as some of the ones offered by woodcraft or rockler, but the price is right. Anybody try these?

    Thanks,

I bought some a few months back and use them all the time. They work surprisingly well for establishing a bevel or flattening the back of a chisel or plane iron. They are nowhere near fine enough for final honing though. I still use a water stone. Would probably be OK for rough carpentry chisels or knives.

Not sure how long these will hold up. One of mine seems like it's starting to show some wear. But heck, they're so cheap that you could probably wear out lots of them before you approached the price of anybody else's diamond stones.

Others may have had a different experience, but I think these are right up there with clamps in the HF good deal category.

I have that set but I have two of this one and use it more:

I bought them on sale for the same price as the three set.

Like Eddy said, not fine enough for final honing of a plane or chisel. The are great for the pocket knife or kitchen knives. I also use them to clean up the edges on scrapers.

I picked up a set on sale for $7 or $8....dunno how they compare to more expensive ones, but they seem to work.

            diamond honing stones....

I have a set of them...they work pretty good for sharpening up some old and dull wood chisels around the shop...not perfect but pretty good overall.

I have them but the seem to separate from the backing and they are thin so how flat the are is a question. The block shown may be better. I have a 3 way one, wooden block that is very flat but not a v. fine grit.
