The 'real' DC-on-the-fritz question

Ironhat: Not sure how you have everything. But if you run a shop vac hose inside the DC piping, you might be able to suck up what is in front of the screen. Blasting air backwards might not blow the problem out, just away from the screen. Once you turn the DC back on it will get sucked back up to the screen.

I should note that my clogging issue involved :

1) 8" face joints
2) 14" passes on planner
3) this all occured prior to having a "cyclone" seperator. I don't think I would have had that many issues with clogging would I have had the pre-seperator.

In all seriousness I really like the HF unit and moved to a true cyclone for 2 reasons. First, the HF unit was in my shop attic. I am surfacing a lot of BF every month. This meant i had to go into the attic A LOT to remove the plastic bag for disposal. The plastic bag would get torn as I brought it down the ladder and would need replaced ($2-3 bag every time). Second, I wanted to vent my fine dust outside. This was easy with the new cyclone.
Other than those two items I really think the HF unit is a killer bang for the buck.

Now, go cut out that screen!

Yep, TheRic, I thought of that while at work today and should work dandy since it's clear flex tubing thru the wall which I can straighten out and be nearly in line with the wye. I'm betting it's paper based on a shop cleanup last week and some floor vac'ing and hearing paper going thru.

Jeff, I have never had a problem surfacing 10" cherry with the HF DC so I'm gonna hold off on cutting out the screen. That and the fact that I'll end up with another back surgery trying to get back into that rat's nest of a corner - LOL. I'll keep in mind if the situation continues to go Tango Uniform. Maybe I can convince a visiting son-in-law to snake his way back in there.

Loring, thanks for the links to those threads. I now recall reading them. It would seem that I had unrealistic and incorrect expectations for the unit. In which case I guess I should be happy with its function and just keep it inline as a protector of the impeller.

Doh, sorry, it was leaves that I sucked up during my clean up. I recall them now as they were blowing in every time I opened the garae door.
