Yesterday, a woodworking buddy of mine gave me an old, old miterbox.
It hasn't been used in years, covered with rust, dirt, stuck sawdust,
crud and spiderwebs. Would not even adjust or swing side to side.
At one time he had two of them and didn't need it anymore.
Today, I started cleaning it up, freed up all the adjustments, removing the rust, dirt and crud. I'll do some more cleaning, then time to repaint the fence and material bed back to original paint colors or as close as I can anyway!
A little history on this piece:
(1) mfg. Millers Falls Greenfield, Mass.
(2) size: 2 1/2
(3)Number: 74A
(4) last patent date according to brass attached tag: Sept. 28 1909
(5) Brass pointer and degree scale
(6) this unit is all steel....no plastic, alunimum, or foreign made parts here ...
100% genuine AMERICAN steel!
I will have to get a couple of screws that are missing from a hardware.
and I'll need a good quality miter/ back saw and it will be again ready to cut molding as it did almost 100 years ago before there were power tools.
What do you all think about that? eezlock
