Tom Miller started an interesting thread on using an Iturra upgrade spring on his Jet bandsaw. I didn't want to hijack his thread, so I thought I'd start a new one. I know there are a lot of us out there with these HF bandsaws.
Someone mentioned he'd called Iturra about using an upgraded spring on a HF 14" bandsaw. This got me curious because I just installed one on mine (the stock spring absolutely would not allow for enough tension for resaw)and it turns out they aren't recommended because the saw is too fragile. I thought I'd go right to the source, so I called Iturra design and lo and behold, Louis Iturra himself answered. He said that the basic frame and wheels on the HF saw is fine. The weak point is the housing around the tensioning bolt. This is the square box with the blade width tension settings imprinted on it. Anyway, he said that this will eventually break with heavier spring use. He sees it pretty often. The good news is that it can be replaced with a much heavier duty Jet component for pretty cheap.
With that in mind, I'm just going to use mine until it breaks. It really does work better with that heavier spring. Just thought I'd pass the info on to anyone who's interested.
