    metal cleaner?

I just picked up an old stainless steel 12" ruler. It has surface rust and some mystery stains. Could someone recommend a cleaner? Hopefully something I can pick up at Lowes or HD.

    TIA

Barkeeper friend Clr, can be made into a paste and let sit, very cheap and avail. at WM and food stores. It has oxalic acid, or the liguid has citric acid for a milder effect. I clean w. it all the time. You can get a high shine w. the Flitz or Blue magic, but the rust will be best removed by chemical action.

Reliable old BRASSO which also does a great job on polishing clear plastics.
          Fairly inexpensive.

Automotive rubbing compounds work well too.
