    Nicked knives

I finally ran my beautiful 6" jointer knives across a paneling nail and manaed to 'install' a 1/16" veining feature. Can't I just bump one knife 1/32" to rhe right and the other a like amount to the left and essentially 'erase' the nick without changing other alignment? I read through a few of the knife alignment threads and managed to relieve my anxiety a bit. Still considering one of the newer alternatives as seen in issue #89 of ShopNotes.
    TIA,
    Chiz

The only drawback to offsetting the knives is that you lose the rabetting feature of the jointer. Not really a big deal, since few people use it anyway.

Thanks, Don. You're right, I don't use it - looks a little unsafe but that's probably ignorance speaking. Definitely not experience! Off to the cabin for rifle hunting of whitetail for the next week.
