Been looking for a chordless calking gun and have been steered twards the ryobi 18v one. I also need to pick up some new 14.4 volt bateries for my dewalt drill, and have been inerested in an impact driver, and had kinda thought about the 14.4 volt dewalt since I could use the smae bateries from my drill. Any way...the dewalt impact driver is around 215 (to keep math simple). I figure I'll be out about 100 on the calking gun for the gun, a couple of bateries and the charger. The impact driver from ryobi is around 70 (I think). So I could get the calking gun, charger, bateries and the impact driver for less than the dewalt. Now since this is for round the house kind of stuff, the ryobi offers around 800 somethign in/lbs of torque and the dewalt offers 1020 or so. The drill I have been using (just fine I might add) only has 310 or so in/lbs of torque, so I am guessing that the ryobi impact driver would meet my needs just fine. However, this setup doesn't replce my aging dewalt bateries. But I can pick up a ryobi 18v ryobi drill with almost the exact same specs as my dewalt (plus the ryobi has a hammer function) for the same price as 1 dewalt battery. I guess my question is have any of ya'll used the impact driver or the 1/2 in 18v hammer drill ryobi makes and if so how would you compare them to dewalt or millwalke or makitia as far as ability to work and functin over time? And what would ya'll do. Get the whole ryobi package, or just the calking gun and stick with the dewalt drill and inpact driver? Thanks for the help fellas.
New Drill?

Stink,
I've noticed two deals at the Borg involving Ryobi 18V tools. For a mere $99 you can get a "kit" that include the circular saw, the drill, a flashlight and a palm sander, two batteries and a charger. The circ saw is great when fully charged for making a few passes or knocking down sheet goods when you don't want to take out the big boy and an extension cord but it will not replace a corded model by any means. The light comes in very handy. Id' say the drill is a quality 18v drill. Don't have the sander, can't comment.
There's also a package that consists of the impact driver and drill for, I think $89 although I'm drawing a blank on whether or not it comes with batteries or not. The impact driver has gotten rave reviews here and on other forums and I couldn't agree more. I would put it on the list even above the drill.
So, if it was me, I would get the multi kit for 99, the caulk gun (that you mention is a priority in the other thread) and the impact driver seperately for a total of about $190. You can than buy any of the multitude of additional ryobi tools that work with their 18v batteries. I've read good thing about their 18v 2 gallon cordless vac so that will be my next purchase. I already have their 18V miter saw, drill, jigsaw, spiral saw rotozip thingy, reciprocatying saw, flashlight circ saw, and a few others so I'm biased. If you didn't have to but the caulking gun and batteries and don't need the other tools than maybe I'd have a different answer but you can't beat two 18v batteries for $34!
