    Jointers--Rigid vs Jet

Looking at buying new jointer. Rigid and Jet are priced at $399 at BORG and Woodcraft. Can't find review on them. So, what is the collective opinion here of these two machines.

Thanks in advance for the input.

The actual jointer portions of both machines are very similar designs, and both are well respected performers. The bases are different, with the Ridgid being a splayed leg open base, while the Jet is enclosed...a bit easier to use with a mobile base. I think the Jet is about an inch longer and a tad taller if that matters much, otherwise are fairly comparable. I think I'd lean toward the Jet for the enclosed base.

I have the Ridgid and it works great not a problem at all, but being in your
shoes I think I would choose the Jet based off it having the solid base and the front hand wheels are pretty cool feature too.

I own the Ridgid, and I like it just fine; but for the same money, I'd choose the JET. I too like the enclosed base, and the JET name might give it a higher resale value if that ever became important.

But, again, I have zero complaints about my Ridgid. It's a fine machine.

The front hand wheels do look cool! You just want to make sure that they are not an impedance when you're working.

I also have the Ridgid and bought it specifically because of the Ridgid "Lifetime Warranty." If still available that's what I'd get again. If not, the Jet.

I have the Jet and love it, the hand wheels are not in the way and is a good value.

Forgot about the warranty. Jet has a 5 yr warranty. The warranty is one of the reasons I bought the 13" Rigid planer.

Spoke with guy at Woodcrafters and he said they were back ordered until after Christmas. Need one before then. Guess there is a trip to BORG in my future. (Tomorrow)

                Thanks for the input.

Bob that's an amazing price, its cheaper than the 3/4 Hp model! I looked at the Jet a year ago, seems like it was priced at $599 then. I have the Ridgid and it has been very good, but I like most people would prefer the JET. Will make you a great price on a pre owned Ridgid if you are interested!?!
