Critter spray gun questions

Which is the best place to get additional glass jars for the Critter? I read everywhere 'standard mason jars', but when asked my wife to get me a couple she comes back with 'could not find any'. I had half-hoped some of the used jam/jelly/pickle jars would have fit, but none in my 'fridge do.

Also, do i need a mask while spraying with the Critter? Found one for $20, but not sure if I need it at all. I'd be using this in my garage with the door open.

I've seen Mason jars at local grocery stores. As far as the mask is concerned, I'd use one just to be on the safe side.

They do take mason jars. However, those jars seem to be a seasonal item and are in short supply or hidden very well the rest of the year. You may need to ask at the store or ask someone who does their own canning. I found mine at Walmart, just get the correct jar and opening size.

Not familiar with your sprayer, but the Wal-Mart here carries Mason jars.

Pickle and jelly jars typically have a very short (vertically) threads for their lids. This is just a guess, so no guarantees, but I'm thinking the taller threads that are used on most mustard and mayo jars will match what you need. Mason jars are basically just an "empty" version of jars like these.

Almost every hardware store carries mason jars. Also, lots of spaghetti sauces come in mason jars.

or you can try your local goodwill or similar type store. there the jars can be had for like .25 each or so.

i would try walmart for a case of them. should run you about 8bucks. if goodmans is near you they will have them i'm sure.


i can, so i'm just going to take some off the "empty" shelf when my critter shows up. i just ordered it from amazon, since the price dropped another $5!

Just bought a pack of these

My Critter showed up last week, so I just went through this. I bought mine at Ace Hardware for about $8 for a set of 12. Make sure you get the pint size, since the metal nozzle won't work with the smaller jars.

BTW, someone mentioned in another thread about using cork gaskets, but I can't seem to find any. Does anyone know of any problems using the rubber gaskets when spraying latex?

I guess that's what happened : my wife got me a smaller size from a dollar-store, and I recklessly told her so, and got back a 'sorry - i saw nothing else'.

Rubber gaskets can be "melted" by the thinners used for oil based materials. I've never had any problem with latex paints. For spraying, you need a seperate gasket as the mason jars now have the gasket as an integral part of the lid.

You can buy gaskets from the critter folks but they are not cheap. I've been buying sheets of cork (Hobby Lobby, Michaels) and cutting my own. They come in 8x11 sheets and are about 1 mil thick.
