    WHEELS Yes/No ????

My table saw is a contractor series, Thus saw on stand or 4 legged base. I am thinking about putting it on wheels so I can move it around the garage for space reasons. What are yalls thoughts ???

I'm all for mobility. You could buy the mobile base for that saw, or add swivel locking casters to the legs (this will raise the height), or build a boxed base with swivel locking casters and make it to finish the height you want (or are comfortable with).

      You mean like this:
BTW, there are a lot of people here with nicer ones and different kinds of excellent setups.

I have the Herc-U-Lift on my BT3100 and love it. I have to move my saw to get the cars in the garage so wheels are a must.

The wheels are cool. Can you lock them? Does the saw stay level?

I don't move mine a lot but when I do, you gota have wheels.

I share the space with cars, so mobility is necessary.

The only thing on wheels in my shop is my bandsaw. That said:

I think wheels on a table saw are fine provided you somehow ensure that the saw absolutely positively cannot, under any circumstances, move while you're feeding material. This includes the small movement that might occur when a locked caster swivels ... even a small amount of movement might be enough to shift the workpiece enough to cause a problem (i.e., kickback).

Speaking of locking casters, I personally haven't seen any that I'd fully trust. If I put wheels under a table saw, I'd want an arrangement similar to the Herc-U-Lift which retracts the wheels completely so that the saw is sitting on its own legs.

I have a 400+ lb Delta planer on an HTC 2000 mobile base. For $50 you can't beat it!

I put swivelling, locking casters at all four corners on my mobile base and prior to using it I had the same thought. I had planned to also put those adjustable feet on the corners to keep it in place after moving it. However, the base has enough mass that not only does it not move during use, I don't even have to lock the wheels. But yes, with just a contractor saw or the BT3, there is not enough mass and something like the Herc-U-Lift is a much better way to go.

You might want to have a look at the mobile base I built; the "Tim-Will-Lift". You'll find it in the Finished Projects forum. Make sure you ask for posts for the last 45 days, because I posted that in early Oct, otherwise it just shows posts from the last two weeks.

No, I don't lock them. I haven't had a problem with it moving though. If I did, I probably would put a small scrap of wood behind the wheel. They stay level just fine for me.

That saw is in the States and I have used it more like a contractor's saw for fixing up my daughter's house in Arkansas and my home in MS. I have done some fairly heavy feeding of 2x4 and 2x6 at times without it moving the saw. The other two feet seem to grip well for me. this has been on slightly to fairly rough concrete, and not real smooth concrete.
