I would like to share with you my way to make cross-cut sled.
It’s a little bit different than the “traditional” way, but it’s easier, accurate and much faster.
The accuracy of the sled depends on the alignment of the blade to the miter slots, so first check and re-check your blade alignment.
Important note:
When you cut your runners, cut them to 1/64~1/32 LESS then your miter slot width.
Just before gluing the sled to the runners (the pic with the “Supper glue” – sorry for the spelling), push some spacers (cardboard) between the runner and the miter slot to push the runners snugly toward the “blade side” of the miter slot.
The spacers should be a little bit lower than the runner, just not to touch the sled.
When you shim the so-called “vertical board” to be at 90* to the miter slots, re-check it a few times before proceeding.
After you shim the “Vertical board”, keep it (shimmed) in case you want to make more sleds in minutes.
Finally, I recommend the “5 cut test”, I did it and got a mistake of 0.008” (0.2 mm) for a length of 98” (2.5 m).
