    BS-DC hookup complete, thank you!

Thanks again to everyone who shared really useful info in my bandsaw-dust collector hookup thread. I finally got it done!

I used a 4" dust port, which I picked up at the WW show this past weekend. I jigsawed the hole on the lower door of the BS. The DC hooks right up to it via a 10' hose fitted with a Quick-Connect coupler. I also installed a wheel brush to keep the tires clean.

I had absolutely no dust collection on the BS before, so this is infinitely better . As a test, I resawed a 24" 2x6. There was some dust left on the table and a little on the floor directly below the stock port, but that was pretty much it: no recirculated dust cloud on the left side of the saw -- in fact, no dust cloud at all! And no accumulation in the lower compartment.

I'm definitely not shooting for zero cleanup, but not having to wipe my goggles after every cut is, well, priceless.

Nicely done, Pare!! Very clean mod.

Can you take a pic of the shop and post?

Thanks, Ray. Compared to the rest of my shop, this is neat!

Chris, I need to clean the shop up a little bit. Posting a pic of it right now would be nothing short of audacious. I am actually in the process of 'remodelling' the place: I'm dismantling the 50+ year-old built-in workbench (and recycling the wood , of course) so I can move my other workbench to that spot. Im' also building mobile bases for the planer, DP, MS, and mortiser. Nothing fancy, just a little workflow improvement.

Looks great, Chris! I know it's a leap of faith to cut a hole in the door, but the result is always a huge improvement.

A wheel brush is a good thing, too. They should be standard equipment.

          Regards,
          Tom

Thanks, Tom. You got that right: it was painful but had to be done.

Could you post more details of the wheel brush, my Griz 555 doesn't have one and I would love to add one

Paul, I'm at work right now but here's a link to Carter's website. This is exactly what I bought and how mine is set up.

The brush (by a different manufacturer, Iturra) is also available at www.highlandhardware.com
