Leigh Jig wars. D1600 VS D4R

I may buy one this weekend, any clue which I should get? I think the only differences are thickness of stock and pin size variation. (well, max width, obviously).

    Any thoughts??

I opted for the larger size simply because the blanket chest I was working on. If the smaller on will do what you want you will not be disappointed. Of course you won't be disappointed with the larger one either

If you have tme to find the free video and watch it first it should give you ideas. there is something about the spacing limitations on the D1600 I think, but could be recollecting wrong.

I'd go for the 24" for the maximum flexibility and a couple of other advantages. See here for a comparison chart you may find useful.

Yeah guys, price no option, it's a stupid question. Of course it's 300$ vs almost 500$, so there's a big difference in price. I stated in the first post the differences from that chart Ray, thanks for the link though. I think the biggest difference for me is the fixed pin size.

Other than that, I think the 1600 looks pretty good. Do you think that 1 1/4" stock would be an ok thickness of stock for doing say, a bench?

          thanks for the input guys,

If you can wait I know Fine Woodworking is shortly going to have a review of the major dovetail jigs.

The split fingers on the big one lets you vary both pins and tails, but has 1" min spacing. IIRC, the 1600 lets you go down to 3/4".

As D4 owner I can say I like it! That said, I would now say wait if you could - I saw a really neat DT jig that Porter Cable showed at the IFF that's really cool. Takes much of the setup out of the process. Not sure when it'll be released.
