May buy a used Planer, DeWalt 733

Saw an ad for a DeWalt planer, #733. It's two blade and older style (new 734 is 3blade). Looks in great condition. Used by a hobbiest. What should I look for and does $200 seem reasonable? I've never owned a planer and am not familiar with them, though I'm handy. I can't buy new. Should I pass and wait for a 3 blade planer?

I've used the 733 for a few years. The only problem I ever had with it was that the hex screws holding the infeed table worked loose. One went to the floor where it was vacuumed up. Other than that I've been satisfied with it.

Little or no snipe when properly adjusted. Good dust collection. I've never felt the need, only the desire, to up grade to a three blader. The desire is there because I'm a tool snob. Three blades must be better. Two speeds must be better. But, the 733 does what I need very well and I can't, in good conscience, replace it.

      Thanks.
You think $200 is worth it? I figure the only thing I need to make sure is there is not play in the drum that holds the blades. He's got a new spare set of blades that goes with. In the pic it looks almost new.

I have one, also. For $200 I don't think you will find a better planer. The only problem I have had is the head lock not holding solidly. This is a new problem and I haven't looked into it yet. More of an irritant than a problem right now.

I've has the 733 for about 3+ years. Love it!! No problems what so ever with it. Have gotten snipe when I haven't supported long runs properly, but otherwise, works super. $200 should be worth it.

I'm with the other guys on this- $200 if it's in great shape is good. I think I paid $349 and that includes extra blades, drive belts, and dust collector shroud, FYI.

Not a bad deal but seems a tad high. I have that very planer and am very satisfied. The dust cover is a $35 option that you almost have to have. If it has that, go for it, if not, use it's absence to get a better deal.

I haven't pulled the trigger yet, though it does have the dust collector.
I ran accross a Ryobi AP-12 with an extra set of blades for $100 which is more in-line with my budget and part-time hobby status. Another $50 and I can pick up a Craftsman benchtop jointer.
