    Odd bolt

Need help in locating a sightly odd bolt. It is 3/8 x 1 x 16 similar to a carraige bolt but the square shaft is less than 1/8" long. I have 2 that were in my junk can and need 2 more to mount the jointer motor. The square shoulder on a carraige bolt is too long for the base plate. A couple of other options would be to either shim the head of a carraige bolt or file off part of the shoulder.

Pappy, you may be looking for a step bolt. Usually a larger head than a carriage bolt but (I think) the square shank portion will be shorter. Or you could put a carriage washer under the bolt head and use the regular carriage bolt.

Don, if you can find something like what you want at like Lowes or HD and get me the #s for it so I can find, I can machine down the square secton to whatever length you require.

        www.reidtool.com

Their catalog will usually result in a hit on about any odd bolt, nut or fasterner on the market.

I thought it might be a step bolt but wasn't sure. No idea where the 2 I have came from. I will check with the local Fastenal store on Tuesday. Another possibility might be anyone that deals in electric motors.

Ken, if it comes to that, I can file the shoulder down on a couple of 1" carraige bolts. Still do need that 10mm flared bushing you were going to make for me...

I like www.mcmaster.com for this kind of stuff. I generally get it before the end of the week if I order Sunday or Monday.

I got the brass round stock cut and in the lathe Don! As soon as I can move some stuff out of in front of the lathe I can get it finished up. I even ended up with a set of metric taps so I could make one for my car too.
