    Why TS with wide table?

I'm going to the dark side and want a Grizzly TS. There are so many choices.
Too many. The one I've been eyeing is the G1023SLX. It has a wide table
but then I think, why would I ever need to cut more than half way through along
the length of a sheet of plywood? If I need to cut a sheet in half to leave me a
4x4 sheet, I'll set up some saw horses and use my circular saw. Maybe a wide
table would make that aspect easier? And the dust collection is right there.
I know that extra space is going to end up doing double duty as assembly
    space.

you could also use the wide table to double as a router table. Saves some space. You may not need to use the entire table often but there has been plenty of times I wish I had the full support the wide table brings. If you have the room, you won't regret it.

I rarely ever cut down a full sheet of ply or mdf with the TS but....... there alot of cuts I make after the initial cut down with a circular saw that are greater than 24". Alot of times I'll rough cut a sheet of ply and finish cut the smaller pieces on the TS. Doing cabinets there are alot of pieces that are greater than 24". I went from this:
      to this:

the old BT mobile base with a new top became my new outfeed/router table. I got spoiled by the extra rip capacity and couldn't go back I don't think, but I don't see myself ever needing another TS. This is the end result http://bt3gallery.fhauto.com/view_al...mName=album110

There is a lot of reasons to have the wide table as stated, if you have the room. I will add that even if you fabricate folding tables the height of your saw table, the difference is amazing when you don't have to struggle with the stock through the cut. For outfeed, or infeed, for long stock, just set it up and fold it when done.

Most of my wide rips are for backing boards. There 36" isn't all that uncommon if you are doing large bookcases. Also support of stock on that side for cross cutting wide pieces on that new cross cut sled that you'll be making.

I understand your questions, Paul, I had the same ones.
If you get the wide table you'll soon wonder how you ever got by without it.

Well, I guess all I was really looking for was the positive reinforcement.

That is the G1023SLX, right? What mobile base are you using? That was my
              followup question.

              Thanks, Paul

The Shop Fox mobile base Griz sells. Even with that though, you aren't gonna roll it around the shop like a microwave cart The whole deal shipped at 550+ lbs and that was minus the mobile base. If they deliever it to the house you need either a couple of strong neighbors and a hand truck or at minimum the need to deliever it with a lift gate. I picked mine up off the freight dock (the easy part) getting it off the Dodge by myself was more of an adventure http://bt3gallery.fhauto.com/view_al...mName=album104
two things I bought this year that I won't regret buying.... The Mustang and the Grizzly. Have fun, Pat

Thanks for the pictures, Pat. The delivery and setup of the Griz machines
I want are what I am dreading. I will be opting for the liftgate delivery option.
Hopefully they bring a pallet jack, too. I can't believe I actually considered
buying the house with the basement shop option.
