    G0452 6" Jointer

Can anyone give me a reason not to buy the G0452 6" Jointer? I have the money and was going to make the order but I wanted to make sure this was a good purchase.

I have no experience with that jointer but I'll relay one thing I've found. If you buy a 6" you'll wish you had an 8". Same thing with 8" to 10". So buy the biggest you can affort.

Do a search in this forum on Jointer or 6" Jointer and there are a couple of post that discuss this jointer. I am planning on getting this jointer from Grizzly next month for my birthday. Also do a search on the web for this jointer and you will find more information. If I remember right it has the same table casting as a number of others, being cast at the same foundry in China. Go to Wilke Manufactuing and look at the Yorkcraft Jointers. The main reason for my choice is price and shipping as I can get it for under $400 and the fact it has a built in mobil base. I still have time before my Birthday so I am continuing to look.

I picked up the Shop Fox W1741 8" Parallelogram Jointer for $655 from a local Shop Fox jointer. Most folks have been able to get it for $655 - $700. It is a cloan of the highly regarded Delta DJ-20 except with a much larger motor.

You wouldn't have to pay shipping if you picked it up from a local Shop Fox dealer.

Well I have placed the order for the G0452 6" Jointer. The main reason was the price and the size. I use my garage as my shop so not only is price a factor but so is space, and everything needs to be mobile so I can still the atleast one car in the garage. Thanks for the input.

Cool. I am sure you are really going to enjoy the jointer. The rack and pinion fence is a wonderful feature and I wish my jointer had it. The Grizzly manuals are generally great, so take the time to follow them and make sure everything is flat/square/aligned to get great results. Make sure you are familiar with proper jointing/planning/TS sequence. Be safe.

              G0452: 6", 1HP, 46" table, 270lbs, $325.
              G0586: 8", 2HP, 75" table, 480lbs, $655.

Tha main reason not to buy G0586 is G0490 (Shop Fox W1741).

                G0586 8", 2HP, 75" table, 480lbs, dovetail way adjustment, $655
                G0490 8", 3HP, 76" table, 597lbs, parallelogram adjustment, $655 (Shop Fox Version)

Having said that, it seems that size and budget dictate that OP buys G0452 which seems to be a fine jointer.

Really wish I could afford the floor space for a jointer of that size, but as it is I am going to have a hard enough time finding space for the G0452. Also at the present time only have $400 for the purchase. I could have always waited and saved more, but then I would really have to have saved. Construction cost for a garage extension or shop would defiantly price it beyond my allowance.
