Air line filter question

Hi Guys
I am trying to plumb a filter into the air line. This is just a filter only unit. I was looking at it before putting it on the compressor. When I blow air in the direction indicated, the air also comes out of the drain hole at the bottom. Does this seal with pressure from the compressor? Am I missing something here?

The drain on the bottom should have a valve so you can close it. It may require you twist it to close.

Valve at the bottom

There is indeed a valve at the bottom. However it cannot be locked on closed position. If you pull down on the valve, it seals. Hence my original question. Will the pressure of the air from the compressor force the valve don to close position? This might be how it works, that way when the compressor is off and empty the valve will open and the condesate will empty.

Is this a mini filter? My mini filter has a schrader valve it's like a tire valve on the bottom of the bowel and it'll release air only if you press the valve stem in. If your valve is like mine, it should not release any air till you press the stem in. If it's releasing air without pressing in the stem, it might be deffective. Hope this helps.

Do not put the filter on the compressor. Keep it as far away as possible for best results. Filter has to be cooler than the compressor. Slant all lines back to the compressor and let gravity work for you on the moisture.

Air filter placement

First of all, thanks for the replies. I picked up a filter from Lowes and it works fine, I will return the HF one.
Bob, I am not sure I understand. The instruction on the lowes unit and the HF unit both put the filter after the regulator. Is this not correct?

After the regulator is correct. The order should be Compressor--->regulator--->filter--->tool.

As Bob Tuttle said, the further from the compressor you get, the better the filter will work.
