    Ridgid Spindle Sander

Need your help guys. I just scored a bunch of gift cards to HD and a couple of other places for my b-day and it's burning a hole in my pocket. Other than this sander I couldn't think of anything else to buy (pretty much already have most of the WW related tools). I've heard good things about this sander so I figured it was the logical choice. What I'm on the fence about is if I should pull the trigger on the sander (will it be a sander I will come to realize I can't do without) or if I should hang on to the gift cards and wait until there comes a time when there is something I can't do without. I wish HD would carry dust collectors or drum sanders. Those are two items really want but I guess that would be asking a little too much. I wonder if Lowes will take HD gift cards....probably not.

    Thanks!

I have been using the Ridgid spindle/belt sander combination for a couple years and remain very happy with it. I have also received lots of similar comments from other users since posting the reivew at the link below.

I have it as well, really like it, does a good job. Much prefered over my old belt/disk combo.

Another satisfied Ridgid OS/B sander owner here. FWIW I'd guess that I use the spindle section and the belt section about equally, if that helps you any with your decision (IOW, I find the tool to be useful all-around, not just in one mode or the other).

Dust collection is reasonably good too, even when connected only to a shop vac.

            It's a conspiracy!!

When I was in your exact same position I posted here for input. Suspiciously, the same guys chimed in with the same advice you're getting now!!

I'm extremely happy with the tool and don't know how I got along without it. The fit and finish very good and the attention to detail, particularly the on-board parts storage, is also good.

            Suspiciously happy,

Yep yep, have it and love it. I use it all the time for making templates. I'm a satisfied customer with this tool.

No I don't think Lowes will honor HD cards . . . lol!

Remember though that HD sell many more tools online than they do in the store. They do carry a few more dust collectors online (though the better Delta is out of stock). Heck, depending on how well you did you could score a Unisaw from HD online! Or did someone say DRUM SANDER ?!?!
                  Delta 18 36 drum sander . . . . .

Thanks for the heads up Jeffery, didn't know HD carried so much stuff. Don't have enough for the drum sander but the dc looks very tempting if it becomes available again. The only thing I'm concerned about is the shipping cost. If they didn't have the price match policy I bet HD would start carrying more stuff in stores.

They often run free shipping promotions.

I don't think the price match policy is a problem. This is the biggest home building supply store in the world. Price comparison is not a problem and no one could beat them if they decided to go that route. It's just how many $900 drum sanders will a store sell in a given year versus the cost of inventory, square footage of retail space, etc.

Good valid point, although I still think the price match policy has some effect on what they choose to carry in the stores. It just seems like HD and Lowes decided they will only carry specific brands or models which do not overlap so they will not have to deal with the pricing policy. I know it doesn't apply to all items especially the drum sander but there seem to be a lot of cases of this. Sometimes they will carry the same items but will sell it under a different name even though it comes from the same manufacturer.

FYI, just picked up the delta 50-760 from amazon - Woohoo!

I forgot to mention, the price was listed at $149.50 but for a few minutes they had a promo for 20% off PNTNEWO8. I tried it but it wouldn't work so called customer service and they adjusted the price. They couldn't locate the code and it no longer shows on the item but they still honored it.
