    craftsman 21610 scroll saw

I went to sears tonight and found a craftsman 21610 scroll saw display model on clearance for $50.97. It looks in very good condition, with the blade on, but no manual and other accessories (I don't know what is missing). I talk to one of the salesman, he give me additional 10% off, so it's $48.17 out of the door. I did a quick search on this forum and internet, it seems this saw has pretty good reviews. But I could not find the manual for it. Just wondering anybody out there knows where to download the maual? The next thing I need to do is figure out how to use it.

    Congrats!

That's a fantastic price on a very good Scroll Saw!

I spent $119.00 for one two years ago, on sale, and thought I'd gotten a really good deal, but you got me beat by a mile!

Look at the ID tag on it for a number like abc.12345677 The first three "abc" digits are really the manufacturer code. From a post on this site a while back by LCHIEN you can translate that 3 digit code into the manufacturer:
Check this link for a list by name:
      http://www.owwm.com/Craftsman/Manufacturers-Name.asp
Check this link for a list sorted by numeric prefix.
      http://www.owwm.com/Craftsman/Manufacturers-Prefix.asp

Go to their web site and will likely find a twin to your new toy. See if they have a manual you can download.

Otherwise go to Sear's parts web site: www3.sears.com (or just click "Parts" on the left/center from the regular Sears website) and enter that whole number to see everything about your saw.

I think this Trademan scroll saw is the same.

I know the one they use to sell at lowes was identical in every way.

Thanks guys for all the information. The model number for my scroll saw is: 137.216100. I checked the list you provided, it is OEM by Rexon. Their website does not have a exact the same model, but one of them might be close, which is the same as the trademan model that coach has mentioned. Unfortunately, there is no manual on the web. I will check trademan's website. Thanks again!

I was looking at this saw today in my local sears where the display model is on closeout for $76.00.

I was bothered by the quick tension knob located at the top back of the saw. Underneath the knob was an exposed darkgrey foam filter which looked like like it should have been covered by an another knob. I am wondering if a part is missing. Does anyone know if it is normal for the foam to be exposed? Here is another thread with a picture of the saw.

Just picked up the same saw at the local Sears. It was marked down to $38.97. Still had 3 left after that. I guess I will find a need for it at that price.

This number came in my saw to call if something was missing. 1-800-843-1682 9 to 5 CST Monday - Friday

Worth a try, they might send you the owners booklet, allen key and blade that come with the saw.

I printed out this thread and showed it to the tool dept manager at my local Sears Essentials. He reduced the closeout price of the floor display model from $76 to $48. It was missing a manual.

I bought the saw and called the 800 number listed above. A nice gentlemen (a manufacturers rep) said they would send me the missing manual. They required the serial number listed on the saw.

The new replacement model (21601) was listed in the latest Craftsman Club brochure. The new model has a built in light. The sears parts list for the new model (137.216010) lists a light assembly for $19.95 (part 2ECA). I am trying to determine the feasibility of adding the light for the new model to the discontinued model. The folks at the 800 number were not sure. My next step is to see the new model so that I can judge for myself.

Is this saw worth $75.00? I went to my local sears and they had two NIB on close out for $75.00. I would of snapped it up if it was priced at $38.00 as someone mentioned on this thread. Anyone have any links to some reviews?

                      Thanks.

I can send you a copy of my receipt showing the $38 if it would help.

                        Let me know.

Yes, the saw is worth $75.00 if you need a tool for scroll saw work.

Here is a link to a review from Workbench magazine where the saw was rated highly.

You will find other favorable comments if you do a search for "scroll saw" on this site.

Try printing out this thread and showing it your the tool department manager at your local Sears. They lowered the price to $48 for me.

Thanks - If the copy of the receipt doesn't work I'll try showing the thread as well.
