The blade and guide post on my band saw are not in alignment. This is a 14 inch saw with a riser block, although this problem was apparent prior to the riser block installation. The blade is not centered in the guide block bracket (not a big problem in itself, but evidence that a problem exists), and the post and blade are not in the same plane, so that when the post is adjusted up or down, the guide blocks need to be adjusted each time so that the blade runs perpendicular to the table. This is apparently a common problem, and I found one recommendation to remedy this by filing one side of the top bearing hinge, and shimming the other side, thus moving the upper wheel over. This should work, however I'd rather not take that approach with my saw because I'm concerned about pressing out the hinge pin without damaging the bracket, because this method would move the blade closer to the edge of the left side blade guard, and because my measurements indicate this is not the root cause. Rather, I think I'd prefer to shim one side of the split between the upper and lower halves of the saw. I've tried this, and it does in fact bring everything back into alignment. Any one else tried this? Any thoughts on whether this is a good solution? Concerns?
Thanks.
Thanks.
