    Norm's videos

I'm sure at least one person on this site has ordered at least one plan/video from Norm. Are these videos the same 20-25 minute show you see on PBS, or are they a little more detailed?

I am thinking of buying the "Deluxe Router Station" plans.

I've never bought any of the videos, for the specific reason that everyone tells me just what Skip said: they're identical to the original PBS broadcast, with no extra footage at all.

I have, however, seen a number of the "measured drahhings" and would have to say I'm not hugely impressed. (I have not, however, seen the one for the Deluxe Router Station.) They were all highly diagrammatic, leaving a lot of dimensions and joinery details to be worked out by each builder. If all of the NYW plans are like the ones I've seen, I'd have to say that the ones you see in WOOD Magazine or ShopNotes are far better.

Offered FWIW, and mindful of the fact that any plan is better than none at all.

Having drawn custom shop drawings for SS fabricated equipment for many years, I will admit that some of his plans are not totally clear. The router table is a good example. I used his plans as reference and modified some things as I saw fit. The end result turned out pretty well.
And BTW, I have bought several of his plans. Some were pretty good, others were not.

I've just about finished building his miter saw workstation. I liked it for all the drawer/tray storage it provides. I just bought the measured drawing, and the best thing about that was the cutting diagrams that made it simple to get the most out of the plywood. I would like to see the episode again, to see how he used the various size drawers. I expect to be able to make good use of all the space, but it would be nice to see what he had in mind when he laid it out. By the way, they won't sell the video seperate. I called and told them I bought the drawing, and would like to buy the video only. They said they never thought of that and would give it some consideration.
