    HF 47612 Nailer problems?

Bought this last week and tried it out this weekend. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...unction=Search
The nails I was using were 34 degree, 1 1/2" from hf. The only way I could get it to fire a nail was by pushing the nails forword and holding the back end of the nail strip down. It's as if you need something between the nail head and the empty space above the nail to keep them from raising up in the rear. After firing a nail the back end raises and that moves the front nail to the wrong angle. Any suggestions?
    Thanks
    Steve

Just a WAG but I'd try a different brand of nails. If that doesn't solve the problem, then I'd return it for another or your money back.

          Scoly,

I have heard good things about this nailer, but mixed results overall for HF. Biggest issue people seem to have is that even if the nailer works well for a while, the first time you need to rebuild it you may just find difficulty getting parts through HF as they change models so often.

I have the PC 15 gauge nailer noted above and have been very happy.

IMHO, if I were you, I would return the HF nailer and get this one http://www.toolking.com/productinfo.aspx?productID=2148. Reconditioned Dewalt 15 gauge nailer for $99 + $8 shipping. I got my PC from toolking (reconditioned as well), and it looked brand new. Full warranty as well. I would point you to the PC, but it is out of stock at toolking. The Dewalt however, gets great reviews on Amazon, and I don't think you'll be disappointed. If you ever do need parts, they should be available from Dewalt. It may be a little more $$, but I think you'll find it worth it in the end.

          Pete

I've got the same nailer and had the same problem until I noticed a small note in the manual. Make sure you insert the nails so the heads are in the T slot at the top of the magazine. It's easy to miss and jams things up royally if you've got the nails riding on the bottom of the mag.

Thanks all for the suggestions. Will keep the hf nailer if Bob's suggestion works.

Hadn't seen that in the manual and did insert the nails at the bottom of the mag. Thanks for the instruction. Will try it tonight.
              Thanks

I have that same nailer. Have not used it much, but have not had any problems with it so far. I just make sure the nails are loaded correctly, and it seems to work smoothly.

I agree with Bob. I have the same nailer. Nails jammed. Wouldn't fire. I returned to HF. Got another one. Same problem.

Then I saw the T slot. Inserted the nails the correct way. No more problems.
