Hand Planes

My wife and I both love to garage sale. Been on the lookout the past two years for any hand planes. Picked these two up over the weekend.

Don't know much about them so hoping someone can shed some light.

First one (the big one) is a Stanley No 5 (says it on it).
The 2nd one says Fulton on it with a decal on the handle.

Are they worth anything or just good for the shop? The fulton looks great, the Stanley has a little bit of rust and the handle is broken at the tip.

Can't tell you much about the Fulton, except there were a lot of them sold. They show up on E-Bay and at flea markets ferequently. Your's appears to be abouth the size of a #3 Stanley.

I think the #5 is an off brand with a Stanley blade. All Stanleys after 1902 had 'Bailey' cast into the toe of the plane. The 'No 5 was cast into the heel of the bed. Another thing is the lateral lever. To the best of my knowledge, Staley never used a lever with the twisted end like this one has. All this isn't to say it won't make a good shop user. Any plane that isn't damaged can be tuned to work well.
