I've been thinking about purchasing a bench disc/belt sander lately and was wondering what people here are using? Craftsman has a 6 inch, 4x24 (I think) for $99 right now. Am I doing myself a disservice only to go out and buy something nicer or will such a machine suffice for awhile but eventually need an upgrade? I don't think I would want go much higher than say $300 on such an item, and even then it would have to be something pretty impressive. Any thoughts?

I personally don't have one, but do most of the same sanding operations with my Ridgid oscillating belt/spindle sander. Got it for around 160$, very nice tool.Keith Z. Leonard

I'm with Keith - the Ridgid does everything that I asked of my old belt/disk combo - and does it better. The belt/disk combo won't do inside curves that the Ridgid does and since Ryobi took their spindle sander off the market IMHO the Ridgid is worth springing for.Ken Weaver
