    Found some Old Iron;

    We went up to San Antonio this weekend to see one of my nephews get an award. While there the wife decided she wanted to hit all the antique places around that area. I did not mind as I kind of like walking through those kind of places anyway as I find it interesting. In the very last place we went too I came across this plane.

    It is a Stanley #5 which I don’t have one of and I thought it may be a fun project since it has no damage to the steel other than rust but it does have a broke handle and a split knob but all parts are there.

    The plane has definitely been used I fell like since the blade is sharpened to the point of needing replacement badly. It has the corrugated sole.

    I dated it using this Website;

    And that put this particular one being a type 11 made from 1910 to 1918. I am going to restore this plane and use it. Since there were so many of these made I really don’t care too much about the antique value other than the pleasure of using an old tool. I kind of made comments to the guy about it being all broke with the handle and all so he lowered the price to $30 which was more than fair to me.

    So I am hoping some of you guys can give me some advice on were to get started (Hello Don and Jim!) I think I would like to try electrolysis on this to remove the rust. I know Don had a tutor on this but I can’t find it! (Link Don, Link)

    Thanks

    Ken
