    Opinions on Mortising Machine

    Can anybody give me opinions of this machine at this price.

    I don't think they are from the same mold. The first looks like an HF knock-off that has only springs, the 2nd has a "gas shock" that lets the handle up slowly.

    I have one like the first one. It's not bad at all really. Plan on doing chisel sharpening on day 1 so get a hone as well. Without the gas shock, it will ring your bell if you let go of the handle for some reason.

    The 2nd one is made by General in Canadia, what else do you need to know? Just crank up some Celene Dion and crack open a Keiths.




    Seriously though, the first one is prolly a 3250 or whatever speed and the second one is a low speed model. Some might say less burning happens with a low speed model. The 2nd model definatley would be of better quality with options like low speed, gas shock, nicer fence and hold-down.
