    It Wasn't Worth My Finger

A couple of months ago to save money I bought the HF 90891 CSMS. When I think over today's events, I'm not so sure it was worth it. I've been a woodworker for over 20 years, and I blame myself because I know better than to run any equipment without the proper safety guards in place. I should have taken back the saw when the blade guard broke the second time I used it.

Today while cutting some 2x10's I reached over to grab the cutoff piece. My small finger hit the Freud TK-806 crosscut blade which easily cut down into the bone and knicked two tendons. I learned a valuable lesson today on operating any tool without the proper safety guards. To those who are thinking about buying this saw in the future, I do not recommend it. It's cheap, not well built; and it's dangerous!

I hate reading posts like this, John. I am seriously looking at a used jointer and safety has been on my mind all day. A jointer is the only tool I have ever had a serious injury from.

Hope you heal fast and can save the finger!

        John,
Thanks for sharing your experience. A strong wakeup message helps all of us. I hope your injury heals completely. I still have a numb right thumb from a run in with a bandsaw last winter.

I'm real sorry to hear about you accident. We all know that the tools in our shops can be very dangerous pieces of equipment but unfortunately we sometimes momentarily forget that fact. I sure hope your recovery is 100%.

I sure hate to hear things like this. I hope that your finger will heal properly, John. I operate my BT3 without the guard...I know I shouldn't and I don't recommend it to others. I try to focus totally everytime I use the saw but it only takes a nano second to make a reflexive action.

****, John, sure sorry to hear about that. It should serve as a reminder to all of us pay attention and never take these tools for granted.

I hope your finger heals up with no long-term damage.

Though it's at the pain and misfortune to one of our forum friends, these posts always make me think twice before turning on one of my many DANGEROUS tools.

                          John,
Thanks for reminding us there is no substitute for safety. When something malfunctions on a piece of machinery it should not be used until it is repaired. I hope you heal quickly and completely.
